Nutrition Programs

The better we are fed, the more we hunger to achieve.

Cargill supports organizations, projects and programs that ensure an accessible, nutritious, safe global food supply. These partners provide long-term solutions to alleviate hunger, improve food safety, educate consumers about healthy and nutritious food, and/or promote a global, open food supply chain.

World Food Programme
Cargill, the World Food Programme and UNICEF recently joined together to help improve access to quality education for more than 10,000 children in 60 Nicaraguan communities. The integrated program, named Smart Schools for Smart Kids, seeks to increase the quality and equity of education while improving the health and diets of school-age children.

Cargill is also partnering with the World Food Programme to improve the health and nutrition of children in Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya and Guatemala. Questions about Cargill’s partnership may be directed to Michelle Grogg at (952) 742-2931.

CARE
CARE, one of the world’s most respected international humanitarian organizations, has been an important partner to Cargill in addressing issues of poverty for more than ten years. Cargill recently made a two-year, $1 million commitment to help the organization address education and maternal/child health issues in Central American countries and others. National 4-H
Cargill, in partnership with Kraft Foods and National 4-H, offers "Healthy Lifestyles" grants to programs that address the growing issue of health and wellness in our youth. To be eligible for a Cargill grant, organizations must receive a letter of support from their local Cargill location. Cargill volunteer efforts are encouraged. Grant information can be found by visiting the 4-H Web site. Questions may be directed to Rebecca Oswald at (952) 742-6207.

America’s Second Harvest
With America’s Second Harvest’s mission to create a hunger-free America, a partnership with Cargill is a natural fit. Cargill’s support is directed to help the organization access more nutritious food for families in need, provide food safety training, and help individuals learn skills for potential careers in the food service industry. Cargill also participates in the product donation program, delivering quality food products from our operations to the ASH network. Cargill locations are encouraged to get involved with their local ASH affiliate through food drives, volunteer projects for teams and individuals, program funding, or product donation. Questions about Cargill’s partnership may be directed to Rebecca Oswald at (952) 742-6207.

Newspapers In Education
Partners since 1999, Newspapers In Education and Cargill created the “Healthy Balance” curriculum in 2003 for teachers and students in selected Cargill communities, providing information and activities about nutrition, wellness, balance, choice and responsibility.
