Team environment

From day one you’ll be part of a team

Working within law at Cargill exposes you to a wide range of legal issues and offers you the chance to develop broad legal expertise, both domestically and internationally. From day one, you will handle significant client matters as part of a global team that manages the legal needs for one or more businesses, departments, or Cargill affiliates around the world.

You will partner strategically with your business client, business functions and your law colleagues in order to achieve common goals.

Collaboration is a core Cargill value, and is essential to the work we do every day in Cargill law. Our team approach, both with business clients and with law department colleagues, fosters rapid and continued professional development and personal and client satisfaction. Each lawyer counsels clients, and advises and represents them on most legal issues as part of a broader legal team. You may call on Cargill law colleagues who are subject matter specialists, such as environmental and employment lawyers or M&A specialists. On other matters, you will enlist and manage the support of outside counsel.

Collaboration is also key to the work you will do with your business clients. You will interface regularly with function leaders and business people of all levels. In some cases, you may be asked to join your client's management team, earning the opportunity to play a key day-to-day role in the management of the business venture you support.

Team environment. Cargill employee in Switzerland office. We are firmly committed to sharing experience and expertise among our colleagues. As a result, the atmosphere of our “practice” is informal, collegial and collaborative. Mentors and group leaders provide support and guidance to developing lawyers. In addition, our emphasis on teamwork means each lawyer will find doors open and colleagues willing to assist when greater experience or assistance in balancing workload is required.

What our lawyers say ...

"I learn something new every day. It might be something that helps me better understand my clients' business or relating to a certain area of the law, but there is never a dull moment. Although one should expect to hit the ground running and learning about Cargill and its businesses each day, the support from your colleagues in the law department is amazing."

What our lawyers say ...

"Why did I join Cargill?  I want to work with a diverse group of global businesses and continuously stretch into new legal areas.  I joined Cargill as a financial lawyer after six years at large law firms in Los Angeles and Minneapolis.  Since then I have been the lead lawyer for our North American meat businesses and  Asia Pacific general counsel.  I am now at the global headquarters co-leading the North American law team. I’ve lived in Singapore, Wichita and Minneapolis and worked with a good number of our 80 plus business units.  I like the variety of work, the way we do business and our global focus."

Jon Lammers, Deputy North American General Counsel
