Greener bioindustrial solutions
In our bioindustrial businesses, we solve a wide range of problems. Increasingly, we are working to find ways to reduce energy and natural resource use, achieve greater processing efficiencies and develop technologies that help our customers protect the environment.
For example, we developed soy-based BioH® polyols, which are increasingly used to replace petroleum-based polyols in the manufacture of flexible foams for cushioning in furniture, car seats and mattresses.
We’ve also developed a new biocatalyst that allows us to significantly reduce our environmental footprint during the production of lactic acid, while at the same time remaining cost competitive.
Other examples of our bioindustrial work
- Processes to make ethanol production more efficient and environmentally friendly.
- Breakthrough fermentation technologies that save production costs and create a more environmentally friendly process.
- Applications that require expertise in fermentation, biotechnology, organism development, industrial chemistry, process modeling, process integration, piloting, polymer formulation, molecular functionality and encapsulation.
- Green solutions: carbon replacement, lower volatile organic compounds and carbon credits.
- New product development (For example, a biodegradable polymer that customers use to make “green” plastic).
- Biofuels, oil field fluids, paper and corrugated board ingredients, formaldehyde resin replacements, oleo chemicals and adhesives.
