Technical
Bergen Op Zoom, The Netherlands

I started my career in Cargill as a technical management trainee. In the corn and wheat processing plant in Bergen op Zoom, I learned about the process and experienced — for the first time — work on a shift pattern. I also had the opportunity to commission a start-up of a new wheat plant in Manchester.

The start-up of Manchester gave me the great opportunity to become familiar with the basics of processing wheat. Different from a plant that is up and running, I commissioned process lines and equipment that had never been used before, which made my work a challenge. Every time the process improved it gave me a real boost to move forward. Later on, I worked on fine adjustments to the process and optimizing capacity. During my half-year assignment in Manchester, I improved my intercultural and professional skills.

As a trainee, I joined Cargill’s European Graduate Program. In this two-year program I have attended several classes, including problem-solving techniques, team building and communication skills. This gave me the opportunity to meet other trainees who were working in different business units, functions and countries.
