The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) developed ISO 14001 as the environmental management system standard. It is an internationally recognized tool for organizations to improve environmental performance. The standard is built on the premise of continuous process improvement using the “plan-do-check-act” model. ISO 14001 certification or registration requires a third party audit verification.
