Cargill has been active in Germany since 1955 and following the acquisition of Cerestar, a leading provider of starch and starch derivatives, and Degussa’s food ingredients business, has now over 1,500 employees in 13 locations in the country - in Hamburg (three locations), Salzgitter, Mainz, Riesa, Barby, Krefeld, Malchin, Bönen, Frankfurt-Höchst, Klein Schierstedt and Wittenberge where it has a joint venture producing biodiesel with Agravis Raiffeisen AG.Cargill has activities in the following areas in Germany:

2007 Cargill announced plans to extend its wheat processing operations in Barby, to include production of bioethanol.
2006 Production began at Cargill’s 250,000 metric tons biodiesel plant in the Höchst industrial park in Frankfurt-am-Main.
2006 Cargill acquired Degussa’s Food ingredients business, including its German sites in Hamburg and Bönen.
2006 Cargill announced significant investments at its refined food oils site in Hamburg.
2005 Cargill acquired Schierstedter Schokoladefabrik GmbH & Co - an industrial chocolate facility in Klein Schierstedt.
2005 Cargill acquired the global pectin business of Citrico, an international manufacturer and supplier of pectin products for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
2005 Cargill announced that it will increase the capacities of its oilseed crush plants in Salzgitter, Mainz and Riesa by 50% to approximately 1.5 million tons to meet the increasing demand from the biodiesel and foodstuffs sectors.
2004 Cargill acquired The Nestlé Group’s primary processing facilities in Hamburg.
2002 Cargill acquired Cerestar - a leading provider of starch and starch derivatives - the largest acquisition in Cargill's history. This acquisition included Cerestar's German plants in Krefeld and Barby.
2000 Cargill formed a joint venture with Agravis Raiffeisen AG in Wittenberge to produce biodiesel.
