U.S. Scholarships

Each year, Cargill contributes more than $18 million to support a variety of education programs around the world. Included in these programs are three scholarship opportunities for U.S. high-school students. Please read each entry below carefully.

Cargill Community Scholarship Program 

WHO: High-school seniors living in communities near Cargill operations in the U.S.
WHAT: 350 one-time scholarships of $1,000 and a $200 grant to each recipient’s high-school
WHEN:

  • Online applications are due February 15, 2012, at 5 pm EST. 
  • Recipients will be announced in May 2012.

NOTE:

  1. Application requires the signature of any Cargill or Cargill joint-venture employee from the general community where the student lives. 
  2. If you do not know if a Cargill operation is in your greater community, please send your city, state and zip code to cargill@ffa.org
  3. The program is administered by National FFA, but students do not need to be members of FFA to be eligible. 
  4. Children of Cargill employees are not eligible for this scholarship.

Cargill Scholarship Program for Sons & Daughters – High-School Juniors

WHO: Children of U.S. Cargill or Cargill joint-venture employees
WHAT: 10 renewable scholarships of $1,000/year for up to four years ($4,000)
WHEN:

  1. Students apply in their junior year of high school. 
  2. To be considered for this program, students must take the PSAT/NMSQT in October 2011 OR request alternate testing arrangements by March 1, 2012, by contacting National Merit Scholarship Corporation; see the Web link or your high-school counselor for more information. 
  3. Online entry forms (very short) are due February 15, 2012. 
  4. Recipients will be announced in Spring 2013, the students’ senior year.

NOTE: For Class of 2012 students who applied last year for this program: You will be contacted by National Merit by December 2011 only if you proceed to the semi-final round; the scholarships will be announced in May 2012.

Cargill Scholarship Program for Sons & Daughters – High-School Seniors

WHO: Children of U.S. Cargill or Cargill joint-venture employees
WHAT: 40 one-time scholarships of $3,000
WHEN:

  1. Students apply in their senior year of high school. 
  2. Online applications are due February 15, 2012. 
  3. Supporting documents must be postmarked by February 15, 2012. 
  4. Recipients will be announced in May 2012.

Additional Scholarship Information 
  • Children of U.S. Cargill employees may apply to both sons and daughters’ scholarship programs, once as a junior and once as a senior, though a student cannot receive both scholarships.
  • There are a small number of undergraduate scholarship programs offered by Cargill businesses that are promoted through selected colleges and universities; check with the school’s financial-aid office.
  • Cargill does not have any graduate-level scholarship programs.

  • Cargill employees interested in tuition reimbursement should contact Cargill Human Resources or HR Direct. 
  • Children outside of the United States, including employees’ children, may contact Cargill in that country to learn if there are local scholarships.
  • Each scholarship program is administered by a different nonprofit organization; Cargill staff do not evaluate applications or select recipients. 
  • The scholarship programs are each very competitive. Not all applicants will receive a scholarship.
