BiOH® polyol and polymer FAQs
What is the percentage of biobased or renewable content in your products?
Our polyols and polymers have been tested to ASTM standards with renewable content of >95%
How many polyol and polymer products do you have? What are standard properties of your products?
We currently have multiples polyols and polymers available for sampling. Tech Data Sheets are available for all of our polyols. Our sales and technical team can help you with any of your questions.
Where are your products produced? What is your capacity?
We have two Cargill polyol manufacturing facilities – one in Chicago, Illinois, and another in Mairinque, Brazil. Cargill operates a polymer producing facility in Dalton, Georgia. We also have additional manufacturing capabilities through other partners.
Our facilities are capable of producing tens of millions of pounds of polyols and polymers.
What are your polyol and polymer prices?
Prices vary depending on product, order quantity, and delivery method. A sales representative can provide pricing to you.
Where can I purchase foams made with BiOH® polyols?
Contact us for a list of our foam manufacturing partners.
What package sizes and shipping methods are available?
Our polyols and polymers can be shipped and packaged to meet your needs. They can be shipped in drums, totes, tank trucks, iso containers, flexi-bag containers, and railcars. Standard drum size is 450 lbs/204 kgs; standard tote size is 2250 lbs/1022 kgs.
What markets do you currently serve?
BiOH® polyols and polymers are used across a variety of markets in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
Do you have lifecycle data on BiOH® polyols?
How do BiOH polyols leave a smaller environmental footprint than the petroleum-based components they replace?
A preliminary lifecycle analysis of BiOH® polyols, which has been third-party certified by Five Winds International, compared the raw material and manufacturing processes of our products with those of traditional petrochemical polyols that BiOH polyols replace. The data indicated that BiOH polyols result in:
- 36% less global warming emissions
- 61% less non-renewable energy use
- 23% less total energy demand
Are foams made with BiOH® polyols composed of 100% renewable-based ingredients?
The percentage of BiOH polyols in commercially available foam products varies, but the renewable-based (or soy-based) content is typically 5-20% of the total foam formulation in conventional foams. Some memory foams on the market contain more than 50% BiOH polyols in their formulations.
Are foams made with BiOH® polyols degradable?
Foams made with BiOH® polyols are not more degradable than traditional petroleum-based cushioning. Products made with our products are long-lasting and durable like traditional cushioning. Polyurethane foam, however, can be recycled at the end of its life.
What about fire retardance issues?
In our experience, foams produced with our soy-based polyols have performed better than or equal to their equivalent offset petroleum-based foam. However, testing of finished foams is the responsibility of the foam manufacturer to ensure that they pass all specifications.
How much crude oil does using BiOH® polyols save?
For every 1 million pounds of BiOH® polyols that replace traditional petroleum polyols, approximately 2200 barrels of crude petroleum (or 92,400 gallons) is saved for other uses.
