“I am recognized and guided by my manager and I can feel his support and trust in my day-to-day work.”

High Caliber People: I had a one-month training experience in the Minneapolis office where I had a mentor for my training program. He was very busy with his daily work but still gave one to two hours on a daily basis to support me with a very comprehensive training program. He is a good representative of the Cargill culture and spirit: strong leadership, energetic, and willing to share and to develop others. I’d like to be a leader like him some day to win others’ respect with professional expertise, strong leadership skills and an easy-going personality.

Describe your work responsibilities and the importance of your role.

I am a vegetable oil trader in Cargill’s grain and oilseed business for Greater China and Korea, and trade on several markets. My trading performance helps make up the larger results for our business.

Describe your day-to-day activities and the skills needed to perform well.

I arrive in the office between 8:30 and 9:00 and read market reports before the Dalian exchange opens.

I talk with the China commercial guys in the morning and see what’s happening on the China market and discuss supply and demand with analysts, looking at changing price indicators.

At 10:30, the Malaysian market starts to trade and I will talk with traders there on Malaysian and Indonesian cash activities.

Then I’ll trade against on our game plan, which may be based on price or margin.

In the afternoon, I will check on cash activities on the China market and trade accordingly if there are opportunities.

Lastly, I’ll talk with our Geneva traders to brief them on the China market upon their arrival to the office in the morning European time.

Describe your career path. Where did you start and how did you get to where you are today?

I started as a soybean meal merchant trainee, then became a merchant, a vegetable oil trader and finally a senior trader.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

I love the sense of achievement when I trade in the right direction and it is rewarded by the market with a positive impact to our profitability.

Why did you choose to join Cargill and what keeps you here? In other words, how has a career at Cargill helped you to thrive?

The friendly and honest atmosphere and the constructive organizational structure are great.

I feel I am valuable to this organization and am rewarded by the company for my hard work.

I am recognized and guided by my manager and I can feel his support and trust in my day-to-day work.

What advice would you give someone interested in a career at Cargill like yours?
