“I believe what we do in Cargill is helping people to thrive.”

Since I joined Cargill, I’ve been learning new things about our business, customers and China’s agricultural sector overall. I ask questions of knowledgeable people who work with me in our office or around the globe. And I draw insights from Cargill’s footprint across China to respond to questions I receive from other global teams. Both of these things have helped me to develop faster than I could imagine. They also contribute to our business growth. The learning opportunities and the open environment that enables leaders to share their ideas really are inspiring.

Describe your work responsibilities and the importance of your role.

I lead a team of experts studying fundamentals of China’s grains and oilseeds industry to provide timely and accurate insights to contribute to Cargill’s earnings. Understanding what is happening in the biggest agriculture market in the world, figuring out what it means to our business in China and to all the other parts of the world, is very important to Cargill.

Describe your day-to-day activities and the skills needed to perform well.

My daily work involves leading people to do supply and demand analysis. Our team studies a wide range of interesting and valuable areas, ranging from corn and wheat production, to meat and soybean meal demand. Collecting data, connecting with the market, diagnosing and forecasting what will happen next: This is what we do on a daily basis. And we need to communicate our insights. Curiosity, a rational mindset, and clear communications are some of the key capabilities. Leadership is also critical in my job.

Describe your career path. Where did you start and how did you get to where you are today?

I started as a feed analyst, studying China’s feed and soybean meal demand. I gradually expanded my scope to other agriculture demand analysis like grains to take the demand analysis lead role. Then I was promoted to lead the whole analytical team in China covering both crop production and demand.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

I love to learn new things and find answers to very interesting and valuable questions about China’s agricultural supply and demand. It satisfies my own curiosity and at the same time contributes to our business. I believe what we do in Cargill is helping people to thrive.

Why did you choose to join Cargill and what keeps you here? In other words, how has a career at Cargill helped you to thrive?

I enjoy the learning opportunities, great colleagues, challenging tasks and the belief in the positive things we do. All of these keep me engaged in Cargill.

What advice would you give someone interested in a career at Cargill like yours?

People are willing to share what they know, so keep asking questions. That’s how you can grow quickly.

Share an interesting tidbit about yourself such as hobbies, volunteerism, favorite foods or activities, accomplishments inside or outside of work.

During my school studies, I collected plant samples near the base camp of Mt. Everest for two days (5100 meters above sea level). It was tough, but the view was great.
