“Being a part of a global company like Cargill allows me to work with people from different cultures, points of view and also meet colleagues with a high level of knowledge in their field.”

I joined Cargill and enrolled in a TMT (Training Management Trainee) and since the beginning my mentor recommended that I spend valuable time to define my career development plan. After six years at Cargill I have defined my path, worked on my development and Cargill has facilitated a wide range of tools (trainings, assignments…) to fulfill my development needs. In 2010 I completed an assignment of two years in Italy and I’ve been enrolled in different trainings to develop hard and soft skills.

Describe your work responsibilities and the importance of your role.

Currently I am working in the Central Process Development Group working with different locations worldwide to optimize processes, innovate and implement new projects. The final objective is to make our production sites more cost-efficient in the actual competitive world and benchmark best practices across Cargill. It is a great opportunity to be in contact with people from different cultures, perspectives and ways to get things done.

Describe your day-to-day activities and the skills needed to perform well.

My day-to-day is widely variable. I dedicate 50 percent of my time to visit locations and support them in the field. Communication and creating synergies is critical in my job and for that reason I make efforts to be in close contact with the local teams. The other 50 percent of my time I usually stay in my office where I mainly develop reports, analyze data and work with projects

Describe your career path. Where did you start and how did you get to where you are today?

I started in 2008 as a trainee enrolled in the TMT (technical management training) and EGP (European graduate program). It was a great opportunity to understand Cargill as a whole and have a general vision of our business. It was also an opportunity to start building a networking around Cargill. In 2010 my mentor proposed that I take an assignment in Italy (Castelmassa) and I did not hesitate for a second to accept it. It was one of the best professional experiences I have ever had where I grew personally and professionally. My assignment lasted 2 exciting years. In Italy I met my current boss who proposed that I join his team in the central development group. Since 2012 I’ve been in his group, following different technical processes (spray drying, malt, sweeteners).

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

Opportunities at Cargill are endless. If you are engaged and committed there is no limit for your development. Being a part of a global company like Cargill allows me to work with people from different cultures, points of view and also meet colleagues with a high level of knowledge in their field.

Why did you choose to join Cargill and what keeps you here? In other words, how has a career at Cargill helped you to thrive?

Honestly, I didn’t know Cargill before joining the company in 2008. When I start to do some research to know more about Cargill I realized it was a huge company present in more than 60 countries. It was exactly what I was looking for, a multinational organization with international opportunities. When they presented me the TMT and European Graduate Program (EGP) I was fully convinced that I wanted to join a company who was investing in recruitment of young talent and giving people the opportunity to grow internally. My career at Cargill has gone fast, too fast. I have seen a lot of different things for six years and that keeps me highly motivated to continue learning.

What advice would you give someone interested in a career at Cargill like yours?

There is a world of opportunities awaiting you. These opportunities are worldwide in a nice atmosphere. Cargill is a highly talented company that cares about people.

Share an interesting tidbit about yourself such as hobbies, volunteerism, favorite foods or activities, accomplishments inside or outside of work.

I am fan of all kind of sports. I am practicing for a triathlon and do a lot of swimming. I am a member of the Cargill Cares Spain group, volunteering in different initiatives and also collaborating with Caritas to educate kids from families with economic and social difficulties. Food is also an interest, Italian cuisine of course!
