Cargill operates five Canadian facilities located in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec. In Alberta, the High River plant is a fully integrated beef processing facility where over 2,300 employees process 4500 head of cattle per day, and the Calgary Case Ready facility has over 350 employees serving national retailers and food service customers. In Ontario, the fully integrated Guelph beef facility employs over 820 employees and processes 1,800 head of cattle per day, while the Guelph Case Ready facility has over 600 employees. In Quebec, the Chambly Case Ready facility has over 500 employees serving national retailers and food service customers. Maintenance Mechanic – The maintenance mechanic is responsible for safe execution of maintenance and emergency repair work orders as required to contribute to the safe, efficient and reliable operation of equipment within the accountable areas. Also perform other duties within the department as required.

Principal Accountabilities:

+ Maintenance Mechanic main responsibility is to answer calls from the radios. They are responsible to repair / trouble shoot machines as they break down. They must perform preventative maintenance (PM) on a daily basis. Must complete work orders.

+ Maintenance Mechanic must follow all of companies safety rules and procedures. They must ensure to lock out the machines they are working with to prevent serious injuries (to themselves or others) They must stay alert and be aware of their surroundings.

+ Maintenance Mechanic must follow all of companies food safety rules and procedures. They must make sure to keep their tools, hands and their work areas clean to prevent cross contamination. They must follow HACCP and GMP’s. Candidates require to complete a Mechanical Aptitude Test.

This Full Time position is located in High River Alberta; however please expect receiving calls from a 204 area code in case you are considered. Relocation assistance is not provided.

+ Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

+ Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old

+ Must have experience as Maintenance Mechanic

+ Must be able to read/write English

+ Must be able to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders, open/close valves, shoveling and pounding with hammer

+ Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds

+ Ability to work in elevated areas

+ Must be able to operate machinery

+ Must be able to operate heavy equipment

+ High School diploma or equivalent

+ Basic computer skills

+ Ability to work overtime

+ Ability to work holidays, nights, weekends or different shifts


+ Forklift certified

+ Experience working in a meat processing plant

+ Inter-provincial Journeyman Red Seal Millwright Certificate

+ Willing to progress through Cargill site specific training/progression

+ Capable of meeting production, safety and quality requirements

+ Superior interpersonal and organizational skills

+ Able to work as an individual and as part of a team

+ Able to be an effective decision maker in situations with critical times constraints

+ Welding experience
