TRANSFORM: Current Opportunities

Request for Application  (RFA) : Holistic Nutrition Poultry Broiler ROI- India  (TR-HNR-RFA- 2024-01). Issued March 19, 2024 

As part of project activities, the USAID TRANSFORM project implemented by Cargill is seeking applications from research organizations to conduct research on the combined effects of an immunity supporting in-feed additive and improved management and biosecurity on the return of investment in poultry sector 2 or 3 farms in India. It is anticipated that this study will be performed with an existing integrator working with multiple sector 2 or 3 producers to implement management and biosecurity improvements as part of TRANSFORM activities. Sector 2 farms are commercial entities with high levels of biosecurity and sector 3 farms are semi-commercial with low to medium biosecurity.   

This new research will determine whether feeding a Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product (SCFP; specifically, Diamond V XPC) in combination with improving biosecurity and management can:   

1. Improve production performance;  
2. Reduce antimicrobial use (AMU); and   
3. Improve general health, including morbidity and mortality;  

when compared to no biosecurity and management improvement or SCFP (Control) and only biosecurity and management improvements.

Request for Application  (RFA) : Holistic Nutrition Poultry Layers – India (TR-HNR-RFA- 2024-02). Issued March 19, 2024 

As part of project activities, the USAID TRANSFORM project implemented by Cargill is seeking applications from research organizations to conduct research on the combined effects of immunity supporting in-feed additives on mitigation of zoonoses and food-borne pathogens, post-vaccination responses, and antibiotic use in sector 1 or 2 poultry layer farms in India. Sector 1 and 2 farms are commercial entities with high levels of biosecurity. A sector 1 operation is part of a vertically integrated organization.  

This new research will determine whether feeding a Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product (SCFP; specifically, Diamond V XPC) and at least one other qualifying immunity supporting in-feed additive, to be proposed by the applicant (e.g., a phytoadditive, probiotic or essential oils), can:  

1. Reduce the prevalence of zoonotic food borne pathogens including Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Campylobacter spp. and Clostridium perfringens. 
2. Improve the post-vaccination antibody titer response to a Fowl Pox, Newcastle disease, Infectious bronchitis, and a Marek’s disease vaccine.  
3. Reduce the need for antimicrobials and consequently minimize the risk of antimicrobial resistance development; and improve health and performance culminating in an attractive return on investment (ROI) for the producer.

Request for Application (RFA) : Holistic Nutrition Poultry – Kenya (TR-HNR-RFA- 2023-02). Issued December 21, 2023

As part of activities under the Holistic Animal Nutrition Research component, TRANSFORM is seeking applications from research organizations to conduct research on the combined of effects of an immunity supporting in-feed additive and improved management and biosecurity practices on the return of investment in poultry sector 2 farms in Kenya. It is anticipated that this study will be performed with an existing Sector 1 integrator (which has partnered with TRANSFORM) working with multiple sector 2 producers or farms to implement management and biosecurity improvements as part of TRANSFORM. Sector 2 farms are commercial entities with high levels of biosecurity. For the purposes of experimental design, applicants should assume that they will have access to database of farms that will meet the requirements of their preferred experimental design.

Annual Program Statement: Holistic Nutrition Dairy – India (TR-HNR-APS- 2023-01). Issued February 14, 2023 (Modification 4 – August 29, 2023).

The TRANSFORM project is seeking concept papers and applications from universities, research institutes, or private firms registered in India, with capacity to perform applied research on holistic nutrition for dairy cows. However, TRANSFORM has changed the focus of proposed research. Modification #4 provides a new deadline for submission of concepts.
