Global Capital Execution Lead

This position reports to the Global PM&S Category Leader and is preferably based in the United States or Europe. Cargill Strategic Sourcing and Procurement (CSSP) is a global organization that strives to strategically source and leverage Cargill’s indirect spend; this indirect spend spans Plant Materials and Services (MRO, Capital, Plant Services, etc); Corporate Material and Services (travel, IT, HR, etc); Chemicals, Energy; Packaging; and Ingredients. The CSSP team is responsible for managing over 9 billion in spend. Capital Execution is a critical capability for the CSSP organization. Capital Execution teams are accountable for developing and implementing both capital and category strategies into capital projects to leverage Cargill’s position in the market and bring significant value into the organization, which helps fuel growth for the company. Our Capital Execution teams drive strong connectivity with the category teams, business stakeholders and suppliers, and are expected to have deep understanding of category and business strategies and the requirements needed to help accomplish those strategies. The Capital execution team is a key contributor to deliver projects without incidents, within budget and schedule and meeting the business objectives. The Global Capital Execution (Capex) Manager position is accountable for the sourcing strategy and execution of the global capital portfolio. This capital portfolio typically ranges $1,500mm - $2,000mm annually. This position is accountable for defining the global capital strategy but also to make sure we deploy the global strategy consistently in the regions. This position will continuously improve the procurement deliverables in the Project Delivery Process, and will guarantee deployment of the Category strategies into the capital projects, compliance with audit requirements. This position is also responsible for ensuring the sustainability of the Capex strategy on a longer term basis, developing and leveraging best practices across the sourcing lifecycle, key stakeholder alignment, successful implementation and supplier relationship management as it relates to Global Capex execution. As part of the core accountabilities of the role of the Global Capex Manager, there is a need to work across resources at a global level. A key and critical component of this role is aligning Global and Regional Strategies, reflecting differences in BU models and Market and Supplier differences at the Country Level.
_35% Capex Sourcing Strategy Development:_
+ Defines, continuously improves the sourcing strategy for Capital Projects. Guarantees consistent deployment in the different regions in compliance with Cargill audit standards
+ Develops and maintains deep capex expertise, cultivate strong partnerships with industry partners and internal stakeholders
+ Monitors overall capital and category strategies development and implementation, leads changes to the strategy in line with the changing industry and business environment.
+ Synthesizes the above knowledge to develop ideas for capital strategy improvement opportunities within the organization.
+ Engages with business stakeholders to incorporate business requirements and to clarify and prioritize the value delivery targets.
+ Provides guidance, feedback to category managers on strategy improvements and establishment of TCO models, “should-cost” models and other category management tools.
+ Provides guidance to Capital Effectiveness and Businesses on improvements to capital processes to drive maximum value delivery and increase efficiency.
+ Establishes global capital targets and provide leadership to global and regional teams to track progress against established targets
+ Monitors performance using internal and external benchmarking methodologies. _15% Strategy Deployment and Continuous Improvement:_
+ Develops, improves, and ensure use of global processes and systems including; Procurement Deliverables, Procurement Plans, Contracting Strategies, Contract Templates, Ariba Process, Spare Parts Process, Negotiation Templates, Capex Tracker, Value Tracker, myPPM, Capex Database, Bid Templates, Instruction to Bidders, Quality, Transportation, Training Documentation.
+ Facilitates cross BU/Region collaboration and knowledge sharing to leverage global capital portfolio.
+ Ensures compliance to Global Category Strategies, policies and procedures including utilization of select suppliers within the projects.
+ Guarantees participation of the function in technical & commercial background information sessions, in technical gate reviews, in IPA reviews, project close-outs and other industry/benchmarking discussions.
+ Ensures performance-tracking measures are relevant, effective and communicated. _20% Global Portfolio and Stakeholder Management:_
+ Uses the Cargill Portfolio Management System (myPPM) to understand, monitor the global Capital Project Portfolio
+ Fully understands stakeholder landscape, creates stakeholder plan, understands the role they play and works to maintain relationships in partnership with other members of CSSP, including Business Engagement Leaders.
+ Follows established reporting and communication structures to ensure all stakeholders are adequately informed. Proactive communication around success stories and lessons learned.
+ Responsible for escalation of issues to Senior Leaders and removing barriers for the Capital Execution Team.
+ Ensures alignment between Procurement, Capital Effectiveness, Legal, EH&S, BU Engineering, Manufacturing Technology and Sourcing Categories. _30% Capex Team Leadership:_
+ Leads the global CAPEX execution team
+ Active engagement with the regions, ensuring work direction is clear, objectives are defined and met
+ Accountable for talent development, performance management, succession planning and engagement of CAPEX execution team. Expected to demonstrate a culture of one team, helping to mentor and guide the broader set of resources working to implement capex and category strategies.
+ Lead change across the global capex team and assist with leading change across the broader organization. #LI-JM1
+ Four-year college degree in business, procurement, supply chain, engineering or related degree program
+ 10 years of Team Leadership and Development experience; proven track record of developing talent and leaders within the organization; prior experience leading virtual and/or global teams preferred.
+ 15 years relevant experience related to capital projects, project management and engineering and/or sourcing experience on projects.
+ Demonstrated project management experience - leading complex large projects >$100mm.
+ Demonstrated ability of strategic thinking – ability to move from broad to specific content
+ Ability to effectively communicate strategy/recommendations/issues, both verbally and in written form to senior management in a professional, concise, and direct manner.
+ Ability to understand core business goals and establish processes or programs to help the function move the needle forward.
+ Ability to manage numerous competing priorities and deliver exceptional results in a virtual team environment.
+ Proven track record of strong leadership skills with the ability to engage & influence key stakeholders
+ Persuasive change agent capable of challenging status quo
+ Proven track record of building external partnerships to drive innovation in area of responsibility
+ Experience leading large capital projects either from a Business or Sourcing/Procurement Perspective.
+ Experience developing and executing sourcing strategies for capital projects.
+ Working knowledge of the capital construction industry – processes, market, suppliers and cost drivers
+ ERP knowledge, specifically in SAP and MRP
+ Knowledge of Process Improvement Tools and Processes (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma)
