Improving greenhouse gas intensity

Cargill began measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from all our facilities in 2006.Our GHG inventory covers 1,100+ locations on a global basis and encompasses 15 different manufacturing technologies. Our inventory includes both emissions generated from our own operations (Scope I) and from energy we buy (Scope II). Our inventory is based on the internationally accepted Greenhouse Gas Protocol developed by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development. We share our operational and supply chain expertise with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to deepen our understanding of the issue and explore opportunities.

Cargill. Improving greenhuse gas intensity.Looking forward to 2015, we’ve set a 2015 goal of improving GHG intensity by 5 percent from our fiscal year 2010 baseline. During fiscal year 2011, our GHG intensity improved 3.8 over percent over our baseline.

Cargill made a voluntary but legally binding commitment to reduce absolute GHG emissions from its primary U.S. locations by joining the Chicago Climate Exchange in 2007 and in doing so committed to annual reductions in GHG emissions at our U.S. operations, staring at 1 percent in 2003 and increasing to 6 percent by 2011.
