Cargill continues its efforts to enrich the lives of local communities by improving access to affordable homes

Saraburi, Nov 27, 2020 – Cargill employees and business partners such as Linde and Ecolab came together with people in the local communities and government organizations in a community development project led by Habitat for Humanity to build Pracharat houses for needy families in Phra Phutthabat, in the Saraburi province of Thailand.

In Phra Phutthabat, some residents were living in poor conditions or in areas that were unsafe. To tackle this problem, Cargill focused its efforts to improve poverty housing and addressed the economic and social challenges in the community. The Pracharat Housing Project has succeeded in catering to the needs of people in the communities and the employees who have been given access to these affordable residences.

Cargill’s most recent grant brings the company’s support to Habitat for Humanity since 1996 to nearly $1.7 million. To date, the project has constructed 147 houses for various communities across the country, especially those in the central and northeastern regions, helping over 1,000 people in need.

Watcharapon Prasopkiatpoka, Country Representative of Cargill Thailand said the company has been developing its corporate social responsibility efforts to stay aligned with communities’ needs. “Our vision is to give back to communities. We know that ownership of simple, decent affordable housing can make a strong impact on the health and educational success of children, and the well-being and financial success of a family, which in turn, impacts a community positively.”

Apart from home construction, the company plans to build a school canteen in the Korat province in February 2020. The company has also provided financial support to the construction of hospital canteen, public libraries, school playgrounds, as well as providing school supplies, including books, stationeries and sports equipment for local schools.
