Cargill to operate Dakota Plains agronomy business at Parkston

PARKSTON, S.D. - Jan. 22, 2013 - Dakota Plains Ag Center, LLC announced that Cargill AgHorizons will operate its retail and wholesale agronomy business, located south of Parkston. The grain business will continue to be managed by Dakota Plains.

“We look forward to growing the relationships Dakota Plains has developed with area customers and are excited about the opportunity to provide farmers access to our latest technology and risk management tools, ” said Doug Fjelland, general manager, Cargill AgHorizons, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Among those services are:

  • Cargill's NextField™ System, which takes precision agriculture to a new level through data collection, crop planning, agronomic recommendations, precision application and decision support.
  • Cargill's Agronomy ProShop™ research work, which is a mechanism for farmers to participate in high yield strategies for their farms.
  • Cargill's Accelerated Acre™ research, which is the integration of the ProShop research and NextField in the producer's field.

“Cargill's technology and products are all designed to help farmers manage their return on their investment, which can be challenging in today's market environment. We look forward to leveraging the agronomy strengths of one of our owners and encourage area farmers to explore these new opportunities, ” said Matt Winsand, general manager, Dakota Plains.

Dakota Plains Ag Center is a 50-50 joint venture between Cargill and Farmers Elevator of Tripp. It includes elevators at North Tripp, Parkston, Scotland and Tripp, S.D. Cargill's lease involves only the agronomy business in Parkston.
