Cargill surpasses fundraising goal for Ronald McDonald House® of Northern Alberta
Annual hockey tournament raises over $50,000 for local charity
WINNIPEG – Apr. 8, 2013 – Cargill today announced that its second annual Score! For the House charity hockey tournament in Spruce Grove, Alberta was once again a tremendous success as they surpassed their fundraising goal with all proceeds going to the local Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta (RMHNA).
In a collaborated effort between Cargill’s Value Added Meats Foodservice business, Cargill Beef, Animal Nutrition business, and AgHorizons grain business, Cargill employees made up six of the twelve teams and set out for a weekend of friendly competition on the ice, all for an important cause.
“I am so proud to see our employees come together with the local community in support of an effort as commendable as the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC),” said Cargill Value Added Meats Foodservice general manager, Derek Schoonbaert. “We’ve become more invested in our partnership efforts with RMHC throughout the year, telling me that our employees understand the need that exists in Northern Alberta and how much our support means to families in need.”
For more than ten years, Cargill has been a strong supporter of RMHC throughout Canada with particular involvement in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Cargill was the first corporate partner to get involved with the Home for Dinner program at RMHNA - a volunteer led dinner preparation service for families taking temporary residence in the House that has significantly grown over the years - now offering a lunch and soup program as well. The majority of Cargill Value Added Meats Foodservice employees in Spruce Grove also make monthly payroll contributions to RMHNA.
"To describe Cargill as a partner is an understatement,” said Martin Dugas, RMHNA Executive Director. “Every family that stays with us learns there is an army of kindness waiting to serve them. At RMHNA every moment of every family's life matters and it takes a community to make this happen. On every level Cargill leads our army.
The Score! For the House tournament was held at the Spruce Grove Grant Fuhr /Stu Barnes Arenas April 5-7 and was attended by hundreds of players and guests. Participants and guests were also invited to attend a fundraising banquet on Saturday evening featuring Cargill’s own Sterling Silver® beef as a main dish.
