Cargill’s Joe Stone Joins World Food Program USA Board of Directors

World Food Program USAWASHINGTON – World Food Program USA (WFP USA) announced today that Cargill Corporate Senior Vice President Joe Stone has joined the non-profit’s board of directors, bringing with him more than two decades of experience in agricultural development, market access, and food security.

“We have reached a turning point – we need new collaboration to ensure a sustainable, food-secure future,” Stone said.

“Cargill has been collaborating with the United Nations World Food Programme for more than 15 years in a global effort to nourish people,” he said. “I am delighted to be a part of WFP USA’s important work advancing short- and long-term solutions to fight hunger and malnutrition.”

Stone is responsible for strategy and execution for Cargill’s animal nutrition businesses, which create nutrition for animals that provide milk, meat, and eggs to feed 1 billion people every day. He started at Cargill in 1985 and the Cargill Animal Nutrition business in 2005. Stone has served the company through various management roles, including in Cargill’s AgHorizons and grain and oilseeds businesses and the Cargill world-trading unit in Geneva, Switzerland.

“Throughout his career, Joe has developed deep knowledge and experience building well-functioning food markets around the world,” said WFP USA President and CEO Richard Leach.

“His life-long commitment and passion for promoting food security will help us ensure that zero hunger becomes a reality.”

Stone holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Nebraska. He joins a roster of board members at WFP USA that includes former Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman, former Senator Bob Dole, former Representative Jo Ann Emerson and board chairman Hunter Biden. George McGovern served on the board until he passed away in October 2012.
