Cargill further advances its food security commitments
June 24, 2013
Cargill earlier this month took three new steps to reaffirm its commitment to supporting farmers and improving food security worldwide.
On June 7, Cargill announced it joined Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) as a member of the SUN Business Movement. In joining SUN, Cargill is supporting the SUN Movement globally and at the country level, particularly in the areas of agriculture and education in countries where Cargill operates.
Also in early June, Cargill signed the Global Nutrition for Growth Compact and we have pledged to improving nutrition and health within our own workforce. By 2016, we will introduce a nutrition policy across our company and improve our policies for maternal health. Our initial commitment is to reach about 25,000 of our employees in nine countries with our nutrition policy, with a goal to expand this across the organization.
Lastly, Cargill Vice Chairman Paul Conway represented Cargill at a G8 event focused on the importance of land governance transparency to agricultural and rural development. There, the company signed a pledge to support the adoption and implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on Land Tenure formulated by the UN Committee on World Food Security.
