Cargill’s presence in Guatemala is marked by a history of strategic investments and ongoing expansion in the animal nutrition sector. In 2001, the company acquired Purina Guatemala, a global leader in animal nutrition and owner of renowned brands such as Purina and Nutrena. In 2015, Cargill announced the construction of a new feed plant in the country—an investment of 20 million dollars aimed at strengthening production capacity and meeting the needs of Guatemala’s agricultural sector with even greater efficiency.
We have operations in 10 cities around the country: Guatemala City, Chimaltenango, Quetzaltenango, Mazatenango, Escuintla, Jutiapa, Zacapa, Barrios, Peten y Coban.
Our History in Central America
- 2019 Cargill Honduras celebrates 50 years in the country.
- 2015 Cargill announces a $20 million new feed plant to be constructed in Guatemala and inaugurates a $50 million meats distribution and storage center in Nicaragua.
- 2014 In May, Cargill announces the opening of the Cargill Business Services center in Heredia, Costa Rica, which will provide high quality and efficient services that are trusted by the business and support Cargill´s promise to help our stakeholders thrive.
- 2011 Cargill and "Pipasa” join forces in Costa Rica and Nicaragua to create a solid business group leader in animal and human nutrition committed with the production and commercialization of high-quality products that delight our customers and consumers.
- 2001 Cargill acquires “Purina Guatemala,” a globally recognized leader in animal Nutrition, with prestigious well-known brands like Purina and Nutrena.
- 2000 Cargill acquires “Tip Top Industrial”, a Nicaraguan poultry business.
- 1978 Over the next 25 years, Cargill grows its poultry and processed meats businesses by investing in several companies in Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua, beginning with the acquisition of “Productos Norteños” in Honduras.
- 1969 Cargill enters Central America by acquiring a major interest in “Alimentos Concentrados Nacionales,” (ALCON in Honduras) a more than 50 years’ experience company that offers quality, service and differentiated value to the nutrition of different animal species.

Purina
Founded in 1894 by Sir William Danforth, in Saint Louis Missouri. Considered the most important asset of our company, the brand Purina®, has identified us worldwide for more than 100 years and is synonymous with high quality and continuous research. This brand aims to be a global leader in providing high quality nutrients for different species such as: pigs, cattle, posture birds, broiler chicken, horses, shrimp and rabbits.

Gati
It’s the premium brand for cat food, commercialized in the Central American, Mexican, Caribbean and Venezuelan markets. The brand is familiar with the demanding taste of cats and this is why it offers an exquisite range of flavors such as: Chicken, Fish and Land & Sea (a mix of Chicken, Fish and Beef flavors.)
Dogui
It’s the Premium brand for dog food, providing a wide range of flavors and foods for every life stage. This brand is commercialized in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean region, with specific food products for puppies and adult dogs. Its wide selection allows owners to pamper their friends with Dogui’s different flavors available for adult dogs: Chicken, Beef, Classic (mix of beef and chicken) and Classic with Vegetables (a mix of beef, chicken and vegetables).
Don Gato
Don Gato is a food product with high nutritional value, scientifically formulated to meet dietary requirements of cats during their different life stages. Don Gato has the shape and size that best suits cats’ mouth, facilitating consumption while reducing food waste. Its protein ingredients have a high biological value, providing an optimal energy level as required to meet their daily physiological needs and stimulate their immunological system.
Pet Master
It’s a brand for the value segment that plays an important role in the two market segments where this brand competes: Puppies and Adult Dogs. Pet Master provides dogs with the Strength, Energy and Health they need during their growth and development. The brand is present in the Central American and Mexican markets, and in part of the Caribbean.
