Charitable Giving

Charitable giving is one important way Cargill works to enrich the more than 1,100 communities where we conduct business. Cargill contributes more than US $36 million annually to charitable and nonprofit organizations around the world through four main channels:

Corporate Giving
Cargill’s corporate giving goes directly to selected regional, national and global organizations in three focus areas: nutrition and health, education and environmental stewardship.

Local Giving
Cargill business units and locations allocate funds to give back in their local communities. Many locations have established employee-led Cargill Cares Councils to review requests and make grantmaking decisions.

Cargill Foundations in Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, coordinate regional charitable giving programs in their respective countries.

Minneapolis Headquarters Giving
The Cargill Foundation in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, focuses its resources on a single target population: disadvantaged youth in Minneapolis and its northern and western suburbs.

The Company also supports the following grant programs:

Employee Matching Gifts
Dollar-for-dollar corporate matching grants to higher education institutions and natural disaster relief maximize the impact of giving to causes that are important to both employees and the company.

Natural Disaster Relief
When a hurricane, earthquake, flood, or other natural disaster strikes a Cargill community, Cargill looks to respond to the needs of affected employees, customers and communities.

Scholarships
Cargill awards more than $800,000 in scholarships annually to students living in Cargill communities and sons and daughters of employees.

United Way
Through the collective efforts of 180 locations in Canada and the United States, more than $9.217 million was contributed to local United Ways during the 2006-2007 campaign season, Cargill's best record-setting support yet.

Water Matters
Water Matters is an international partnership that demonstrates Cargill’s commitment to environmental stewardship by encouraging employees to become stakeholders in water education, quality and management in their communities.
