Group Projects
Earth Day - Every year more than 100 Cargill volunteers, retirees and employees, team to help clean public areas on the banks of the river and city lakes. Earth Day typically takes place on a Saturday in April. Members of Cargill Cares Retirees also provide environmental displays for participants.
Feed My Starving Children - This Minnesota-based nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing nourishing food to starving children throughout the world. Cargill Cares Retirees prepare food packages that will be distributed worldwide, primarily in least-developed countries.
Get Out the Vote - Each election Cargill retirees staff Cargill entrances to encourage all employees to vote.
Golf Around Mall of America - Cargill Cares Retirees volunteer to raise funds for the Epilepsy Foundation fund raising efforts at the Mall of America.
Habitat For Humanity - Cargill sponsors a two-week work camp/whole house blitz usually held in the fall. Employees and retirees work from 8:00-4:30 for 2 weeks on house construction and food and beverages for crews. Retirees work the second Tuesday of each month from November-March. Member Services - Callers make periodic phone contact with Cargill retirees in the Twin Cities area and make quarterly phone contact with home bound Cargill retirees to let them know we care and want to help where we can.
Mock Jury - Cargill Cares Retirees regularly provide practice juries for both William Mitchell and Hamlin Law School students.
Salvation Army Bell Ringers - The Salvation Army works to meet human needs worldwide. During the Christmas season, Cargill Cares Retirees work in teams of two to staff Salvation Army kettles.
Second Harvest Heartland - Second Harvest Heartland's mission is to provide nutritional food to our most vulnerable citizens. This mission is accomplished by volunteers who collect prepared and perishable donated food, sort and repack them for distribution and delivery to local food shelves. Cargill Cares Retirees help in the collection, sorting and packing of food items.
Spring Spruce-Up - Volunteers, retirees and employees, provide homeowner assistance to homebound Cargill retirees who need assistance with spring yard work and cleaning. This is a one-day project that typically takes place on a Saturday in April.
Store to Door - This is an ongoing event. Provide order takers, shoppers and delivery of groceries to home bound seniors.
Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) - Cargill Cares Retirees recruit volunteers to spend about 4 hours answering phones and taking pledges during TPT annual fund drive.
Water Fair - Provide educational exhibits for 3000 fifth and sixth graders at the state fairgrounds.
Individual Projects
Elder Mentors - Seniors provide tutoring for school children.
Food Shelves - Sort food and assist recipients.
Meals on Wheels - Deliver meals to homebound people.
Minnesota Arboretum - Assist where needed as gardeners, tour guides, etc.
Tax Preparation - Assist retirees in basic tax return preparation.
Education
Seminars - Cargill retirees are provided with information on how to have a better retirement through topics such as health, insurance, financial planning and fraud.
Social Activities
Social activities, which are open to all Cargill Cares Retirees, are planned during the summer and fall to encourage members to volunteer and become active members.
Volunteer Recognition
Volunteer Day - In April, active Cargill Cares Retirees and Cargill Cares volunteers attend a reception, program and refreshments at the Office Center.
