The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) developed ISO 14001 as the environmental system standards. It is a useful planning tool for organizations to improve environmental performance. The standard is built on the premise of continuous improvement using the “plan-do-check-act” model. ISO 14001 requires certification or registration by a third party.
