Fauna & Flora International

Cargill joined with Fauna & Flora International (FFI) in Indonesia to identify high conservation value forests in select regions, survey for orangutan populations, and engage key stakeholders in protecting and preserving areas that are an important natural habitat of native animal species. The FFI partnership has led to a district government agreement to protect the largest currently unprotected orangutan population by changing the status of a peat swamp forest from “conversion” to “protection forest.”

This accomplishment and other area conservation results, have allowed Cargill to meet our commitments to the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and enabled FFI to take the first steps toward securing areas of high biodiversity importance in Kalimantan. The conservation efforts were used as a model for best practices in other regional palm oil growing areas. Our partnership with FFI aligns with our belief that palm should be produced sustainably and our commitment to conserve natural resources and biodiversity.
