Cargill collaborates with farmers, food makers and industrial customers to bring new ideas to the table.

Renewable energy

Cargill can use a variety of renewable energy sources, including biogas, landfill gas, biofuels — such as biodiesel, ethanol and tallow — and biomass, such as hulls and bagasse to significantly reduce the amount of fossil fuels we use.

Cargill first established goals for renewable energy in 2005.  Cargill’s 2015 goal is to increase renewable energy use to 12.5%.  In fiscal year 2011, more than 11% of our energy was supplied from renewable energy.

Cargill. Renewable energy.

  • See how we are using renewable energy at our newly expanded Starches & Sweeteners plant in Uberlandia, Brazil.
  • See how we will increase our High River, Alberta beef processing plant’s ability to generate energy from non-fossil fuel sources
  • Green electricity, sourced from renewable energy, is supplying  the electricity for Cargill’s soybean crushing plant in Três Lagoas, its Starches & Sweeteners and Cocoa facility in Porto Ferreira and its new tomato-processing business. By 2013, Cargill’s crush plant in Ponta Grossa expects to be using wind power.
