CARE
The five-year, $10 million partnership between Cargill and CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, is on target to reach its goal of helping 100,000 people lift themselves out of poverty by 2013.
While programs vary by country, the initiative provides training, skills-development, and market access for farmers; enhanced education and nutritional support for children; and access to social services like health care and safe drinking water, for communities.
The partnership also works to keep children in school and out of fields while enhancing education for vulnerable children. The project is ensuring that nearly 10,000 vulnerable students in some of the poorest communities have access to quality education. In 2011, more than 13,000 children have graduated and nearly 60,000 additional students are enrolled in Cargill-supported schools.
Cargill and CARE have been partners for more than 15 years. In 2008, Cargill and CARE launched a five-year partnership to reach men, women and children in rural communities with nutritional, educational and economic opportunities for growth.
