The Global Foodbanking Network’s (GFN) mission is to alleviate world hunger by supporting food banks and their networks, and by working collaboratively to create them in communities where they are needed.
Food banks collect, transport and store surplus food, either through donations or rescuing food from being wasted, to then redistribute the food to those in need. Cargill is a founding member of GFN and since 2006 it has provided more than $1.4 million to support the establishment of new food bank networks in India, Mexico, Turkey, Romania and South Africa, as well as helping expand food banks in Poland, Hungary, Canada and Argentina. The effectiveness and reach of food banking in these countries has resulted in the acquisition and distribution of millions of pounds of food that was previously going to waste.
