Cargill today reported net earnings of $425 million in the fiscal 2015 first quarter ended Aug. 31, down 26 percent from $571 million in the year-ago period. Revenues in the first three months totaled $33.3 billion, a 2 percent change from last year’s $33.8 billion.

Cargill today announced that Sarena Lin has been named president of the the company’s global compound feed business unit. Lin was formerly corporate vice president and head of Strategy and Business Development at Cargill. Lin replaces Joe Stone, who served as president of the compound feed business unit for the last six years and was promoted to become a leader of the Cargill Animal Nutrition platform, which is made up of the company’s compound feed business unit, now led by Lin, and premix business unit, led by David Webster.

EMS, also known as Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (AHPND), is caused by certain strains of the bacteria vibrio and has led to devastating production losses in China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and most recently in Mexico.

Cargill completes $20 million expansion of animal feed plant to meet growing customer demand in central Vietnam

Cargill’s animal nutrition business recently celebrated the completion of its US$20 million animal feed mill expansion in Vietnam’s Binh Dinh province. One of eight compound feed mills in Vietnam, the expanded facility will enable Cargill to meet growing demand for high-performing feed from its customers in the country. With this expansion, Cargill has invested more than US$110 million in Vietnam’s livestock and aquaculture industry during the last 10 years.

Cargill today reported net earnings of $319 million in the fiscal 2014 third quarter ended Feb. 28, down 28 percent from $445 million in the year-ago period. Nine-month earnings were $1.45 billion, down 21 percent from $1.83 billion a year ago. Third-quarter revenues were $32 billion, essentially even with the year-ago period; nine-month revenues totaled $98.7 billion.

Cargill acquiring California dog treat producer Pet Carousel®

Cargill today announced it is acquiring Sanger, Calif.-based Pet Carousel®, a private company formed in 2003 that produces branded and private label pet treats and chews. The transaction is expected to close on, or about, Feb. 28, 2014. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Pet Carousel is part of the pet treat and chew category that generates approximately $1.4 billion in annual U.S. sales.

Cargill today reported net earnings of $556 million in the fiscal 2014 second quarter ended Nov. 30, up 36 percent from $409 million in the year-ago period. First-half earnings were $1.13 billion, down 19 percent from $1.38 billion a year ago. Second-quarter revenues decreased 7 percent to $32.9 billion, which brought first-half revenues to $66.7 billion.

Cargill has sold its Provimi business’s Zootech® brand and French veterinary sales division to Bimeda®, a leading manufacturer and distributor of veterinary pharmaceuticals and animal health products.
