Regulatory status

FAO/WHO - Codex Alimentarius

Locust bean gum and guar gum have been given an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) of "not specified" by the FAO/WHO Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA).    

European Union

Locust bean gum (E 410) and guar gum (E 412) are listed in Annex I of the European Parliament and Council Directive 95/2/EC of 20th February 1995 on food additives, and may be used at “quantum satis” in many food categories. 

United States

The FDA recognizes locust bean gum and guar gum as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe), as listed in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR 21,
§ 184.1343 and § 184.1339 respectively).
