Cargill video campaign aims to benefit pets in need

MINNEAPOLIS - After successfully teaming with local nonprofit The Pet Project to donate a truckload of pet food to an area food bank in January, Cargill's Animal Nutrition business is raising awareness for needy pets with a video campaign.

The company has posted on YouTube a short video of the January donation that delivered 38,000 pounds of dog and cat food to Second Harvest Heartland (see the video here.) Cargill's goal is to get 10,000 views before April 30 and celebrate by donating another load of pet food to help pet owners during tough times.

"There are a lot of people struggling to feed their families, and pets are very much a part of many families," said Frank Ziacik, go-to-market leader for Cargill's Loyall® pet food, part of the Nutrena® brand of premium animal nutrition products. "This campaign is about raising awareness for organizations like The Pet Project that are out there to help families in need."

The Pet Project's mission is to help people keep their pets by providing pet food and basic supplies at food banks. Founder Kim Carrier, a longtime pet owner, started the organization when she realized the difficult choices facing many struggling pet owners. "I know that giving up my pets would never be an option for me," she said. "I want to give other pet owners the support they need to recognize it isn't their only option either."
