Cargill supports education through donation to Barnes County North Public School District

Company will participate in district’s “Celebration of Learning” day

SPIRITWOOD, N.D. – As part of its longstanding commitment to education, Cargill announced today it is donating $91,000 to Barnes County North Public School District. The school district serves approximately 300 students in Spiritwood and surrounding areas.

Cargill’s gift will help support the district’s new method of math and science instruction: interactive learning labs at the North Central, Wimbledon-Courtenay and Spiritwood sites, to be used by students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Funds from Cargill have also been used to build a log cabin facility to house the lab at the Spiritwood site.

“These labs have proven to get students excited about math and science,” said Doug Jacobson, superintendent of Barnes County North Public School District. “Thanks to gifts like Cargill’s, we have a spectacular new resource to help motivate students and encourage academic excellence.”

“We’re proud to have partnered with Barnes County North Public School District on this project,” said Ray Johnson, facility manager at Cargill Malt in Spiritwood. “At Cargill, we recognize that these students represent the future of our state, and we’re pleased to help prepare them for success in the classroom and beyond.”

Members of the media are invited to attend a “Celebration of Learning” day hosted by the Barnes County North Public School District on Tuesday, Mar. 18, at 10a.m. at the Spiritwood site, and 2p.m. at the North Central site. At both locations, media will have a chance to tour and photograph the new learning lab facilities and hear from representatives from the district, state government and project sponsors about the importance of education to North Dakota youth. For more information on attending the “Celebration of Learning” day, or for directions to the sites, please contact Doug Jacobson at 701-646-6202 or 701-252-0193.
