Cargill completes wheat processing expansion in Wroclaw, Poland

COBHAM, UK — Cargill has expanded its wheat processing facility in Wroclaw, Poland, with the addition of a flour mill and development of its existing ethanol line. The expansion represents a total investment of US$35 million (€22 million).

The expansion, the first since the plant was built in 1996, allows Cargill to grind wheat on-site, which will then be used to produce sweeteners such as glucose and fructose, as well as vital wheat gluten for the food and animal feed industry. Meanwhile the ethanol line expansion will increase existing production, while allowing room for further expansion in the future.

“By integrating the flour mill into our existing wheat processing facility, we will gain significant flexibility and be able to maximise our wheat processing”, says Frank Van Lierde, head of Cargill’s sweeteners business in Europe.

“These investments allow us to further meet growing customer demands across a number of sectors – food, animal feed and biofuels – across Central and Eastern Europe. Understanding our customers’ evolving requirements and providing them with the high quality products and services they require to meet these needs is critical to our business. The vast majority of the wheat processed here will be locally sourced, so the investment represents great news for local farmers.”
