UnitedHealth Group’s Richard Anderson Elected to Cargill Board of Directors

MINNEAPOLIS – Richard Anderson, executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group, has been elected to Cargill’s board of directors, effective May 9, 2006.

“Richard’s experience as a lawyer and as CEO of Northwest Airlines, his curiosity, and his fine personal qualities make him a great addition to Cargill’s board,” said Warren Staley, chairman and chief executive officer.

Anderson joined UnitedHealth Group as executive vice president in November 2004. He also serves as the chief executive officer of the company’s health technology subsidiary, Ingenix, Inc. Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, Anderson served as chief executive officer and as a member of the board of directors of Northwest Airlines Corporation, which he joined in November 1990. From 1987 to 1990, he served in a number of executive positions at Continental Airlines.

He holds a law degree from South Texas College of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston. In addition to Cargill’s board, he also serves on the boards of Medtronic, Inc. and St. Thomas College of Business.

Anderson joins five other independent directors on Cargill’s board: Michael Armacost, Shorenstein Distinguished Fellow, Stanford University; Arthur Collins, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic, Inc.; S. Curtis Johnson, chairman of JohnsonDiversey, Inc.; Richard Kovacevich, chairman and chief executive officer of Wells Fargo & Company; and Michael W. Wright, former chairman of SUPERVALU INC.
