Sun Valley Foods announces plant expansion in Spruce Grove
Spruce Grove, AB – Today, Sun Valley Foods, a division of Cargill Limited, announced the expansion of its beef manufacturing plant in Spruce Grove, adding an extra 30,000 square feet to the existing plant. Construction will begin immediately. Full production in the newly expanded facility will begin by October 2007.
“Both the City of Spruce Grove and the Alberta government have been very supportive of our business. That support, along with the fact that our major suppliers are in close proximity to the facility, made the decision to invest in Spruce Grove an easy one,” says Jamie Dolynchuk, Managing Director for Sun Valley Foods.
The facility first opened its doors 1978. In September, 2004, it was bought by Cargill Limited and renamed “Sun Valley Foods.” This is the first major expansion of the plant in its 28-year history.
The City of Spruce Grove welcomed the news of Sun Valley’s expansion.
“This is very exciting,” said Mayor Ken Scott. “Sun Valley’s expansion will have a positive impact on our local economy. This is good news for Cargill and for the City of Spruce Grove.”
Sun Valley Foods, a division of Cargill Limited, is a major supplier of processed chicken and beef to the Canadian food service industry. The business employs approximately 1,000 people with locations in Alberta and Ontario.
