Cargill helps support fire safety in Fresno County
FRESNO, Calif. –To help promote fire safety and protection, Cargill is donating $1,000 to the Fresno County Fire Protection District to help purchase smoke detectors to support the Early Detection Program.
The Early Detection Program is an outreach program that seeks donations to purchase smoke detectors and batteries to distribute to residents in rural communities in Fresno County.
The Fresno County Fire Protection District started the Early Detection Program after a Feb. 7 house fire in the Calwa area that claimed the lives of two sisters, Ruvi Escalante, 8, and Anna Nicole Romero Escalante, 9. The girls became trapped in their burning home, which was not equipped with smoke detectors.
“Cargill is proud to donate to the Fresno County Fire Department to help support fire safety and prevention and help prevent this kind of tragedy in the future,” said Derek Kennedy, vice president and general manager of Cargill’s beef processing plant in Fresno. “Cargill is committed to supporting this community where we live and work.”
Donation boxes will be at 19 fire stations throughout Fresno County. For information about how to donate to the program, call the district at (559) 485-7500, ext. 0.
