Cargill to demonstrate application development and functional ingredient capabilities at Natural Products Expo East

MINNEAPOLIS – Cargill will showcase an array of application development and functional ingredient capabilities at the Natural Products Expo East show, Sept. 26-29, 2007, in Baltimore, Md. This year's show will feature more than 1,700 exhibits and encompass natural, organic and specialty foods.

Visitors to the Cargill booth (#3204) will have the opportunity to sample great-tasting food and beverage prototypes, as well as consumer products currently available on store shelves, that feature Cargill sweeteners.

“As a global leader in nourishing people, Cargill provides differentiated sweetness solutions with the right nutritional profile to create distinctive value for our customers and provide consumers with choices to meet their health needs and taste expectations,” said Marcelo Montero, president, Cargill Sweetness Solutions.

The featured prototypes are:

Great for grown-ups – chocolate hazelnut ready-to-eat cereal

Who says indulgent cereals are just for kids? Adults will appreciate this delicious, chocolate hazelnut cereal that provides an excellent source of fiber and contains Xtend® sucromalt. This natural sweetener is a sustained energy carbohydrate that offers the natural sweetness of sugar with a lower glycemic response. Xtend® sweeteners are ideal for use in foods where balanced energy is desired. For more information, visit www.cargillxtend.com.

A crunchy wholesome snack – organic cranberry almond granola bar

This organic snack bar delivers the nutrition of whole grain and is sweetened with organic glucose syrup, a versatile sweetener that provides an excellent balance between sweetness and other functional properties. Derived entirely from organically grown wheat and hydrolyzed with natural enzymes, Cargill’s organic glucose syrups are unlike any other organic liquid sweeteners. They enable developers to manage viscosity, body, mouthfeel, freezing point, texture and sweetness, and have a non-masking flavor and transparent appearance.

In addition, visitors to the booth can also sample:

Accelerade® advanced sports drinks, which include Cargill’s BT-100 system. BT-100 is a proprietary spray-dried combination of trehalose and whey protein isolate designed to improve the functional performance of whey protein in beverage products. Trehalose is a multi-functional carbohydrate that provides energy with all the functional benefits of sucrose and about half its sweetness.

Crayons® all natural fruit juice drink (booth #3839), featuring Cargill’s Zerose™ erythritol, an all-natural sweetener that contains zero sugar, zero calories*, zero aftertaste and zero artificial ingredients. Zerose™ erythritol is a bulk sweetener that tastes and functions like sugar in beverages, dairy products and confections that appeal to consumers who want to manage their weight or sugar intake. *Zero calorie determination is based on scientific studies cited in a petition submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
