New Grade Provides an Innovative, “Green” Solution for Consumer Goods Manufacturers
MINNETONKA, Minn. – Dec. 17, 2008 NatureWorks LLC is launching Ingeo™ 3251D, a new and improved injection molding grade of Ingeo™ biopolymer. This new Ingeo™ grade has been designed specifically for the consumer goods segments such as electronics, cosmetics, housewares, toys and custom molding..
This new grade, Ingeo™ 3251D provides consumer goods manufacturers a sustainable solution in their desire to provide more environmentally friendly products with the performance characteristics of the oil-based plastics used today. This new grade is a compliment to the Ingeo-based compounds currently found in laptops, mobile phones and other consumer goods previously launched by NatureWorks partners.
Ingeo™ 3251D improves productivity with shorter molding cycles, reducing entry cost, and allowing the same mold and screw use as styrenic’s (GPPS, SAN, HIPS and ABS). NatureWorks also anticipates some injection molders will see potential for down gauging in some applications (e.g. GPPS, SAN).as well as possible energy savings.
Ingeo™ 3251D is suitable for semi durable applications that:
• Are either clear or opaque
• Are currently molded in GPPS, HIPS, SAN, ABS or PET
• Require impact resistance similar to medium impact polystyrene

About NatureWorks LLC:
NatureWorks LLC is a company dedicated to meeting the world’s needs today without compromising the earth’s ability to meet the needs of tomorrow. NatureWorks LLC is the first company to offer a family of commercially available low carbon footprint biopolymers derived from 100 percent annually renewable resources with performance and economics that compete with oil-based plastics and fibers. The production of these biopolymers uses less fossil fuel and emits fewer green-house gases than conventional polymers. The company applies its proprietary technology to process natural plant sugars to make Ingeo™ biopolymer, which is then used uniquely to make and market finished products under the Ingeo™ brand name. NatureWorks LLC is a joint venture between Cargill and Teijin Limited of Japan.
