An international producer and marketer of food and agricultural products is expanding its local operations at its plant in Marshall, Gov. Jay Nixon announced today. Cargill Meat Solutions is in the process of expanding its case-ready meat facility with a new production line of value-added food products, a capital investment of more than $15 million that is expected to create 50 new local jobs over the next year.

Cargill’s animal nutrition and premix business, Provimi, has announced an investment of around U.S. $20 million in South Africa. Cargill will, on completion of a deal signed on 30 November 2012, gain a majority shareholding and assume managerial control of NuTec Southern Africa, its existing joint venture with Astral Foods.

The Union Pacific Railroad and Cargill announced today that Cargill’s Atchison facility is now capable of loading 110 car shuttles. Until now, the facility was capable of loading 75 car units.

Cargill announced that it signed an agreement with Wipro Ltd. to acquire its flagship brand Sunflower Vanaspati, being marketed in the hard fats category (Vanaspati). Sunflower Vanaspati is a premium brand in state of Maharashtra, India. The scope of the acquisition is limited to the product brand only.

Cargill is adding a “loop” railroad track at its grain elevator in Tuscola that will give it access to the CSX railroad, expanding the market for local corn and soybeans to the Eastern/Southeast United States and the Gulf of Mexico.
