About U&us natural gas

Cargill took advantage of liberalization to buy gas in the market for our own consumption. This enabled us to find transparency and flexibility, manage volatility risk and limit prices. Before liberalization you could not protect yourself against price fluctuations because the price of gas was always linked to the price of oil. Being able to buy directly from one of the trading hubs means you can limit that risk.

Serving the German natural gas market

For many years, we have been a significant proprietary trader and merchandiser of gas. Through European trading offices in Geneva, London and Amsterdam, we supply own industrial plants with gas as well as manage and monitor price risk. In February 2009, Cargill expanded its operations by establishing a physical presence in the German gas markets. Cargill’s gas operations in Europe focus on both industrial customers and on local and regional utilities. They provide customers with a range of flexible delivery and pricing options based on access to the spot and forward gas markets. These activities are supported by Cargill’s physical storage capacity in Germany as well as its upstream supply contracts with producers.
