Giving Guidelines

To make the best use of Cargill Salt's local budget, we focus on the following priority funding areas because they are issues of significance to Cargill Salt, our employees and our communities.

Environment - support of the efforts of local groups who have as their purpose education about, and maintenance of, a healthy environment.

Education - support of organizations, programs and schools which address the educational needs identified by Cargill Salt.

Housing – contributions to programs that are striving to make housing more available and affordable to Bay Area working families.

Nutrition – ensure a safe, accessible food supply to alleviate hunger, improve food safety, educate consumers about healthy and nutritious food..

Criteria For Giving (One or more of these are considered):
  • Service area is restricted to communities in which Cargill Salt operates or has assets.
  • Meets Cargill Salt's priority funding categories.
  • Directly affects or benefits Cargill Salt employees and their families.
  • Demonstrates direct employee or family volunteer involvement.
  • Demonstrates sound management.
  • Limitations (Contributions are not normally considered for):
  • Organizations and programs outside of Cargill Salt communities.
  • Individuals.
  • Religious and Veteran's organizations, unless funds are sought that will benefit the entire community.
  • Endowment funds.
  • Trips or tours.
  • Tickets or tables for benefit purposes.
  • Advertising for benefit purposes.
  • Political organizations or campaigns.
  • National or statewide organizations.
  • How To Apply (The request must be made in letter form including the following information):
  • A request for a specific amount of money and an explanation of how it is to be used.
  • A description of the organization including a statement of the organization's purpose and objectives.
  • A copy of the most recent IRS letter of determination.
  • A list of officers and directors; a recent donor list.
  • Current operating budget.
