Scholarships

Community scholarships are offered by Cargill, Incorporated, our corporate parent. Our facility awards a scholarship through the Sequoias, a civic organization in Redwood City. We have also established the Claire Lopez Memorial Scholarship in memory of a beloved and long-time employee of the company. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a college-bound student from Newark Memorial High School.

The Claire Lopez Memorial Scholarship Qualifications:

1. Must be a graduating senior of Newark Memorial High School.
2. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
3. Must be planning to attend a 2- or 4-year college.
4. Must have participated in community, school-related and/or extra-curricular activities, such as work or volunteer experience, sports, cheerleading, music or drama.

T o apply:

1. Applicants must write a 2-page, double-spaced, typed essay that explains their qualifications and their plans for college. Address the importance of education to one's future. Applicants should mention school and community activities. State any special circumstances that would be important to consider, such as financial need or acceptance into a special program of study.

2. Two letters of recommendation, including one from a teacher, are required. These letters should address the applicant's qualifications and potential.

3. A school transcript is also required.

Submit this information to Mrs. Bernstein in the College/Career Center -- check. The submission deadline is March 31.
