Belgium
Cargill has been active in Belgium since 1953 and now has over 1,000 employees in ten
locations in the country — Antwerp (two locations), Izegem (two locations), Ghent, Herent,
Vilvoorde, Mechelen, Moeskroen and Zwijnaarde. We have a unique position as a high volume processor of rapeseed and soybeans in the country.

Cargill investments in Belgium
- 2008 - Cargill finished construction of the biodiesel plant and the conversion of the soyabena crush plant and construction of the vegetable oil refinery in Ghent.
- 2006 – Acquired Degussa's food ingredients business plants.
- 2006 – Announced our intention to form a joint venture with Bioro and Vanden Avenne
Izegem to construct a 200,000 tonne biodiesel plant in Ghent. We also intend to construct a
new 300,000 ton vegetable oil refinery and convert our existing soybean crush plant into a
multi-crush plant based on both soybeans and rapeseed. - 2005 – Announced significant investments at our Moeskroen industrial chocolate facility.
- 2005 – Announced significant investments at our Izegem facility to boost the production
capacity of liquid and tropical oils. - 2003 – Opened a new office in Mechelen, which becomes the new Cerestar head office.
- 2002 – Acquired the remaining 50 percent of the shares in Associated Oil Packer's bottled oils
business from Vandemoortele. - 2002 – Acquired Cerestar, a leading provider of starch and starch derivatives — the largest
acquisition in Cargill's history. This acquisition included Cerestar's research and development
laboratory in Vilvoorde.
