Methane reduction in cattle without compromising performance
SilvAir™ is Cargill's nutritional solution to lower enteric methane production by up to 10%, while maintaining cattle performance.
Backed and Better
SilvAir* contains an award-winning**, patented technology*** that's backed by over 10 years of research and 30 peer-reviewed studies published in independent scientific journals.
When added to animal feed, it stimulates a natural process in the rumen, creating ammonia from hydrogen that would otherwise become methane.
For dairy cows, the ammonia can be used to create milk protein, and for beef cattle, it can create more protein for growth.
*SilvAir is registered for use in the EU, UK and Brazil. Product availability and approved claims varies by region and country. Please speak with your Cargill or Provimi representative to discuss your methane emission reduction options.**2022 lnnov'Space award winner; *** Patents related to the SilvAir product and methods of use have been granted in multiple countries.

Understanding SilvAir
Benefits
- Proven solution, backed by more than 10 years of research and knowledge
- Maintains production and performance whilst reducing enteric methane production by up to 10% across typical diets
- Replaces some dietary crude protein, which has potential cost advantages
- Provides valuable soluble calcium
- Accurate feeding rate–as it is incorporated into feed – which results in a consistent and measured feed intake and outcome on farm
Investment Results
- Up to a 10% reduction in methane emissions and reduction in CO2 by around 50kg per animal during the finishing phase*
*Based on an animal that consumes 10kg of dry matter from a confinement diet produces methane, in an amount equivalent to 4–5kg of CO2/day, which would result in approximately 500kg of CO2 in 110 days of finishing.
Improve Sustainable Farming
SilvAir is a key part of Reach4Reduction, our holistic approach to methane emission reduction. Reach4Reduction encompasses three critical areas of impact:
- On-farm productivity management to improve feed conversion rates
- Feed and nutrition to optimize animal performance and health
- Innovation and technologies that reduce methane emissions.
