Cargill Citripure - Lemons

Citrus Fiber

When life gives you lemons...make fiber!

Contact Us

European consumers are looking to reach the challenging daily dietary goal of 25g of fiber per day.* Fortification is an obvious route to contribute to fiber intake, which is why fiber enrichment has never been more on trend. At the same time as this fiber boom, the Nutri-Score nutritional rating system is gathering steam across Europe. Sugars and calorie reduction, as well as fiber enrichment, are some of the obvious ways to help in improving Nutri-Score.

Furthermore, the label-friendly trend is maintaining momentum, as consumers seem to seek out nature-derived, familiar, simple, and sustainably sourced ingredients.

Fibers that are derived from food raw material may answer the key consumer calls for fiber enrichment, Nutri-Score improvement, and label-friendliness.

Introducing CitriPure® - a label-friendly citrus fiber obtained without chemical modification, providing nutritional properties & a great texture enhancement.
* EFSA opinion on dietary intake of fiber

CitriPure® Benefits

  • Label-Friendly: Nature-derived, simple and familiar ingredient based on citrus peel.
  • Nutritional Boost: Fiber enrichment thanks to its intrinsic balanced mix of 40% soluble fiber (pectin) & 60% insoluble fiber (cellulose & hemicellulose), thus enabling Nutri-score improvement.
  • No Chemical Modification: Simply fully dried peel (nothing added, nothing taken away) produced with only water and energy. All the natural components of the citrus peel are kept intact.

What makes CitriPure® different?

texturizers citripure upcycling scheme
We are taking the whole peel raw material that we process with no-chemical modification (we only use energy and water), so we can create a food ingredient in powder form with nutritional properties, and some inherent functionality. We make efficient use of the whole fruit, reducing waste where we valorize the side streams from the juice processing industry.

Regulatory status

Citrus peel has a history of safe consumption prior to 1997, therefore CitriPure® is considered a traditional ingredient and does not fall in the scope of Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 on Novel Foods.

CitriPure® complies with fibre definition in Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 and as such, the amount present in the consumer product should be included in the total amount of fibre in the nutritional table when fibre is declared.

The regulatory status of the added ingredient in a consumer product depends on the context and the intention of use of the ingredient. Regulatory status of the ingredients needs to be considered on the basis of the relevant legislation.
