Few states do more to feed America and the world than Kansas

Tractors harvesting wheat In Kansas agriculture represents 45% ($68 billion) of the economy and 13% of the jobs. Known as the sunflower state because of that plant’s proliferation and very large yellow flowers, Kansas is the top wheat growing state in the U.S., produces other row crops including corn, maize, soybeans, and is a major meat-producer. Food manufacturing is another significant sector of the state’s economy.

Cargill’s presence in Kansas includes more than 4,000 jobs in a dozen communities. Our operations include beef processing, livestock and poultry feed production, grain marketing, salt for water conditioning products and other similar uses, plant-based edible oils and a joint venture to produced milled grain items such as flour.

In 2016, Cargill invested $60 million in its Wichita oilseed crush plant and dedicated a new, $50 million, distribution center at it Dodge City beef processing facility. Late in 2016, the company announced a $60 million investment to build a new headquarters office complex in Wichita to house its North America protein business, which opened a $17 million innovation and sensory center there in 2011. A $90 million project to convert the company’s edible oil capabilities in Wichita to biodiesel production was announced in 2017.
