“Cargill employees are open - I am inspired by their attitudes and competence. I can always count on colleagues to receive the necessary support and learn from them.”

Being a Cargill employee for almost 13 years, I have always been able to follow my conscience at work. I did not have to choose between company’s values and my own, I did not have to act against my principals. While working in my department, I feel in my element. The company’s philosophy sets specific norms and defines ethical standards. It makes relationships among employees and their superiors deeper and more valuable, and above all, connects all Cargill employees. This results in better communication and quality feedback. Cargill employees are open - inspired by the attitude and competence. I can always count on colleagues - by receiving the necessary support and being able to learn from them.

Describe your work responsibilities and the importance of your role.

Trade is the main goal of our company. As Business Development Manager, I am responsible for cattle products trade and development of strategies for selling animal feed in Poland. After acquisition of Provimi by Cargill, we developed a new business model which has ensured safe development of our different segments and has aimed at increasing our productivity by 2020. Introduction of a more diversified business model had enormous impact on the company’s development and stability. The most rewarding thing about my job is that I have been given opportunity to manage all Cargill locations in Poland. The multiplicity of my role gives me a lot of satisfaction. For my role as a trader what I really like is not the trading process itself, but satisfying our client’s needs, trying to understand them better and to adapt our strategies to them. The most joyful and fulfilling phase of selling is listening to people, convincing them and then negotiating contracts. Success in trade is all about a good understanding of your client’s needs. Besides, I love team work and challenges. Cargill provides me with a lot of opportunities to grow in both areas.

Describe your day-to-day activities and the skills needed to perform well.

My main task is to conduct analysis of different sale areas. Apart from that, I do recruiting, coaching, report analysis and supervise work efficiency. I am also involved in implementing changes in our production sector as well as I am in charge of winning new clients, partners and distributors.

Describe your career path. Where did you start and how did you get to where you are today? I started as Sales Representative in distribution department in 2002. Over time I got promoted quite quickly and I became Animal Nutrition Consultant, Regional Distribution Manager, Sales Director for Cattle Department and Marketing Director in CAN. In my current role I am responsible for a project from beginning to end – this is what I like about this job most. Leading the project to a successful completion is what motivates me a lot.

Why did you choose to join Cargill and what keeps you here? In other words, how has a career at Cargill helped you to thrive?

What I appreciate about Cargill most is its modesty and humility. A combination of humility and responsibility with courage and commitment determines the uniqueness Cargill. Those values are permanently present within Cargill’s culture over hundreds of years. It is amazing how this private company has remained faithful to its rules while expanding. The company has true respect for its employees, which results in their loyalty. What is more, the company supports personal development. It clearly concentrates on constant development of its employees’ competencies, skills and professional progress. I think, the example of my career at Cargill itself shows how it helped me to thrive. Personal development of each Cargill employee translates to accomplishment and growth of our business partners.

What advice would you give someone interested in a career at Cargill like yours?

Most importantly, I would advise you that you get to know the company before you send your application. It is about the possibilities the company can offer you. Try to imagine your personal development in Cargill first. And remember that job search is more about choosing the right employer than the right job. Try to focus on the company’s culture, activity and development. If you can see yourself there, there is for sure an appropriate job for you within its wide and complex structure. In a nutshell, choose Cargill and don’t let Cargill choose you.

Share an interesting tidbit about yourself such as hobbies, volunteerism, favorite foods or activities, accomplishments inside or outside of work.

My biggest passion is music. I play the bass guitar and I co-create the Cargill band in Poland. Thanks to that I can perfectly connect my hobby with my job. I am definitely a people’s person – keeping in touch with my team and with the market, inventing new marketing strategies, advising people, contact with clients, those are the things which I truly enjoy, and which I can make use of at Cargill very well. I am also a sea person, I love sea fishing and sailing.
