Cargill to Expand Production at Deventer Facility: Set to increase specialty coatings & fillings capacity
February 18, 2022
Consumer demand for indulgent chocolate products continues to rise. In particular, people are looking for specialty, such as vegan, sugar-reduced, and palm- and nut-free, options from the products they already know and love. Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate has met these rising demands for specialty products, but will do even more to serve the customer better and keep up with market demands.
We are proud to announce that we are expanding our Deventer coatings and fillings production facility in The Netherlands. The new, state-of-the-art production line will add 60% to the volumes of coatings and fillings currently produced in Deventer, meeting the growing consumer demand for coatings and fillings and for the specialty solutions in this range, ensuring security of supply for years to come and ensuring further sensory innovation for new products.
Construction will begin in April 2022, with the first products reaching the market from the newly expanded Deventer line available from November 2023. We will be able to better serve customer needs by providing increased volumes of coatings and fillings, including specialties like palm free, nut free and sugar reduced options.
The new Deventer production line is also fully mirrored on a smaller scale at The House of Chocolate, Cargill’s unique center for inspiration, co-creation and innovation, opening this spring in Mouscron (Belgium). There, new products can be tested and refined and production easily scaled-up at Deventer to deliver faster routes to market for your new products.
This expansion is just the first of several projects in progress by Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate. Plans are underway to increase efficiency of existing lines, extend current capacity and expand capabilities in cocoa and chocolate production. This will support new product releases such as our Bright White chocolate and plant-based offering, ExtraVeganZa, and build further innovative capabilities across Europe.
Over the past ten years, Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate has continued to invest in expanding both capacity and capabilities at sites across Europe. We also have enlarged our gourmet portfolio through the acquisitions of Smet and Leman, and will soon open the House of Chocolate.
