Cargill in Colombia

Cargill’s presence in Colombia began in 1966, when the company entered the country with a focus on grain merchandising. Over the following decades, Cargill expanded and diversified its activities, entering the coffee and cocoa markets in the 1980s and investing in a fertilizer plant in Buenaventura in the early 1990s. 

During the 2000s, the company went through a transformation, divesting from the coffee and fertilizer businesses and consolidating a new structure with the creation of Cargill Trading Colombia. In 2008, Cargill de Colombia Ltda. was formally established, marking a new phase of growth. 

Expansion accelerated in 2011, when the global acquisition of Provimi brought specialized animal nutrition operations to the country, with sites in Bogotá and Funza. Soon after, Cargill entered the Colombian protein market: first with the acquisition of Pollos El Bucanero in 2017, and then with Campollo in 2018 — strengthening its position in the country’s poultry sector. 

In 2019, the company adopted the name C.I. Cargill de Colombia Ltda., reflecting its evolution and international trading scope. 

Today, with more than 8,000 employees, Cargill plays a strategic role in the marketing of grains and oilseeds, the production of premixes and additives for animal nutrition, and the growing protein business in Colombia.
