Medical devices
Wound dressing, dental impression and ostomy care
Medical devices have become an increasingly important health care area. The sector includes products ranging from medical, surgical and dental equipment to the most sophisticated diagnostic imaging and minimal invasive surgery equipment.
For disinfecting, liquid disinfectants are one of Cargill’s specialties. Its specialized product range in this field includes products for skin and surface disinfection. These liquid disinfectants are produced on the basis of our high-quality natural alcohol. All of Cargill’s liquid disinfectants provide a broad spectrum of effectiveness against micro-organisms.
For wound dressing and dental impression materials, Cargill’s specialized hydrocolloids are valued for their absorbing and gel forming attributes as well as their consistency.
Our products are manufactured to meet our customers’ expectations and needs.
Wound dressings
Absorbing and gelling agents in wound dressings
The absorbing and gelling properties of hydrocolloids are particularly valuable in creating wound dressings. In hydrocolloids dressings, gel forming agents contained in the inner layer are a combination of hydrophilic polymers swelled by absorbing exudates, forming a gel maintained into the elastomer matrix.
By its binding and its gel forming properties, high methoxyl citrus pectin perfectly complements the effects of other hydrocolloids.

Ostomy care
Absorbing and gelling agents in ostomy care
Ostomy pouching systems affect well being and quality of life, making selection of the appropriate system a key element of ostomy care. They are multi-phase systems consisting of a rubbery adhesive into which is dispersed absorbent and gel forming agents.
When applied directly to open wounds, these key components interact with the wound exudate:
- to form a more or less cohesive gel that helps create and maintain an optimal moist environment
- to maintain the adhesive system structure and cohesion
With its binding and its gel forming properties, high methoxyl citrus pectin perfectly complements the effects of other hydrocolloids such as gelatin and carboxymethyl cellulose.
